*Seattle*(August, 2009)
The Artist Clinic at Seattle's Country Doctor Community Clinic is expanding its subsidy program. Effective immediately there are no income requirements to qualify for a subsidy to help cover clinic bills. Uninsured artists will receive $75 vouchers (maximum of per year) to help cover expenses incurred at the Country Doctor. Subsidies may also be applied to prescription drugs purchased at the Country Doctor pharmacy.

This is great news if you've been considering getting a flu shot this year and/or finally having that annoying pain checked out. Don't put it off any longer! The Artist Clinic offers artist-focused hours every Wednesday from 5:30-8:30pm or other times by appointment. Click here for more information.

Six of the eight labeled toys tested contained phthalates, which are a class of chemicals linked with a range of harmful health effects. Please take a moment to tell the Federal Trade Commission that parents and consumers need to know the truth about toxic chemicals in children's products.

Check out this beautiful/intense blog by Mazen Kerbaj, a trumpet player & cartoonist from Beirut. My friend Ricardo Arias was evacuated from Beirut last summer, having played several concerts & taught a workshop with his rubber balloon. The world is increasingly strange, and full of dark beauty.
And more chilling still, listen to Mazen Kerbaj's recording of trumpet improvisation with bombs, the night of July 15/16, 2006.

"ragusa is a very beautiful baroque town in the south of sicily.
tourists come to visit the architectural splendors such as the cathedral of st george - the duomo, but often find it difficult to find the way, since the old town is full of narrow winding streets.
the front door of the house where our recording sessions were held is often open to have some cool breeze, tourists passing stick their nose inside and ask where they can find the duomo.
one august morning we decided to help them and put up some signs, in the wrong direction of course, leading pass the courtyard where we held our illegal concert using traditional instruments, voice, loop station, various kinds of feedback, and tapes with field recordings and non definable recordings "
